“Traumatic stress is an illness of not being able to be fully alive in the present.”

-Pierre Janet, French neurologist and psychologist, 1889

The impact of trauma can be devastating. Unresolved trauma can impact every aspect of one’s life. What causes some memories or events to be considered traumatic for some while others may have experienced the same things and yet don’t suffer from the trauma? Why do people experience such variable results from traditional talk therapy and other common methodologies practiced? People might feel better after venting or crying during a therapy session, but when they return to their next therapy session, they are still disturbed by whatever traumatic experience(s) they had been through.
It's time to use what we know about the brain to do it differently!

About The Cortina Method (TCM)

What is TCM?

The Cortina Method (TCM) is a brain-based healing methodology used to resolve trauma. It utilizes a strategic protocol rooted in neuroscience for efficient outcomes with an emphasis on people NOT having to relive or reexperience distressing emotions.

It involves brain reprocessing and brain optimization.

Brain optimization is getting the brain to respond to life, in the most enticing and optimal way possible.

What kind of trauma can TCM resolve?

For TCM purposes, trauma is individually defined – i.e. it’s not about ‘what’ happened, but about ‘how’ the brain responded.

TCM can resolve trauma/PTSD from a specific incident in as little as a single visit. Complex trauma may require multiple visits.

TCM is not concerned with diagnoses – rather we look at brain based symptoms that have been distracting guests from living their life in an optimal way for them.

The outcome is that people share that painful emotions are replaced with relief, and even joy, gratitude, and excitement. TCM can resolve and remove triggers and symptoms. TCM recipients say they are amazed at how their thoughts and feelings are much more productive, advantageous, and desirable after TCM. Changes are sustainable.

What happens during the TCM process?

The first step in the TCM protocol is a discovery call to screen for goodness of fit.  During the TCM visit, we use brain-based language, physical movement, calming techniques, visualization, and more.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, in TCM, the Practitioner does most of the talking during a visit.

TCM does NOT require the person receiving it to re-live pain and as such, it can be a very gentle and light process.

The Practitioner is very active and directive with an extraordinary sense of attunement and unity with the individual they are serving.

An average TCM visit is 2 hours.

TCM is effective in persona as well as via Zoom or virtual visits.

Why does TCM work?

The Cortina Method takes great care to establish the root cause or origin of the problem. Neuroplasticity (the ability for the brain to reorganize neural paths, connections, and functions) is facilitated at peak levels. Scientific advances have shown that memory is not stable, fixed, static, but rather labile and malleable. TCM fully engages this neuroscience revelation by updating learning or stored memory. That is where transformative healing takes place!

TCM does not reinforce old neural pathways by re-living past traumas. By getting the nervous system to respond in a new way, we update the brain map pathway -sending the message that no action is needed…

What wires apart, fires apart!

How is TCM different than other types of therapy?

TCM is different than traditional therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), a mental health treatment technique.

Many TCM guests report significant or full relief in as little as 1 visit.  Traditional therapy is typically ongoing (often years.)

The TCM Practitioner does most of the talking during the protocol, and the guest is not required to share painful details of experiences.

TCM guests often leave feeling uplifted and light.  Traditional therapy can leave clients feeling drained and tired following a visit.

TCM isn’t concerned with “what happened”, but rather how the brain responded to what happened.

How effective is TCM?

Most TCM guests report significant or even complete relief from emotional distress related to past traumatic events.

TCM is effective on guests as young as 5 years of age!

Independent brain mapping research shows a significant reduction in beta and high beta wave activation on qEEG scans.

What are the contraindicators to the effectiveness of TCM?

For optimal results, it is important that the guest is not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. With that said, medication(s) should not hinder the results for the guest. In regards to any cognitive functioning limitations, guests need to be able to track you in conversation. Cognitive impairment that prevents tracking would likely hinder the effectiveness of the method. While TCM is a highly effective method for treatment, there is never a one-size-fits-all approach. Guests or individuals who are specifically seeking long-term counseling, and/or traditional talk therapy may not be best served by this method.

Where can I learn more about TCM?

Michael Cortina, the founder of The Cortina Method (TCM), is on a mission to create an army of trauma healers!  I’m proud to be one of those healers as a trained TCM Practitioner.
